A member of the elm family, this genus contains about 20 species of trees and shrubs that are native to the subtropics and tropics. Some species with male-only flowers may produce large amounts of pollen. One species called the poison peach, Trema tomentosa, has been known to kill horses and other livestock when they ingest the fruit.
